If PROM works, but AROM does not it stands to reason that there is something wrong with the muscle that is performing the movement.
This is what we have eliminated in PROM and substituted (in most cases) with the therapist’s muscle power.
If there was a restriction as in something holding the body part back, PROM would not be possible either.
There are a couple of things that can prevent the agonist from performing its job, amongst them are
- Weakness
- Paralysis
- Nerve problem
- Torn muscle
- Triggerpoints
