Isotonic, Isometric and Isokinethic Contractions
Sub-classes of isotonic contractions
Isotonic concentric contractions
A muscle contraction where the muscle shortens as it contracts
early phase: slow
middle phase: fast
end phase: slow
change in speed
different strength at different length
angle of pull
inertia of resistance
Dynamic (isokinetic) contractions
speed remains constant
muscle tension or resistance alters
Isotonic eccentric contraction
A muscle contraction where the muscle gets longer as it contracts
Isometric contractions
A muscle contraction where the length of the muscle remains the same, the tone may change
